What Is Biohazard Cleaning?
Biohazard cleaning is the safe removal of harmful substances from a property. These include blood, bodily fluids, sewage and animal waste. Trained technicians clean and disinfect the area. All waste is then removed and disposed of under licence. The goal is to make the space safe to use again.
You cannot treat a biohazard like normal dirt. Bacteria and viruses can live on surfaces for days or even weeks. Household products do not kill them all. It takes the right equipment, chemicals and training to do the job safely.
Common biohazards we clean include:
- Blood and bodily fluids
- Human and animal waste
- Sewage spills and flood water
- Rodent and bird droppings
- Needles and drug waste
- Fluids left after a death
Emergency Clean UK is a licensed waste carrier (CBDU626436). We are a registered UK company (No. 17032976) and fully insured. Our teams cover the whole UK and work around the clock.

Biohazard Cleaning FAQs
What counts as a biohazard?
A biohazard is any substance that can spread disease. Common examples are blood, bodily fluids, human and animal waste, sewage and needles. Mould and rotting matter can also be biohazards. If a substance could make you ill, treat it as one.
Is blood a biohazard?
Yes. Blood can carry viruses such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Even dried blood can stay infectious for days. Spills should be cleaned with proper protective equipment and disposed of as hazardous waste.
Is urine a biohazard?
Yes. Urine can carry bacteria and it soaks deep into floors and furniture. Small fresh spills are low risk. Large or old soiling, such as after an unattended death or in a hoarded home, needs professional cleaning.
How much does biohazard cleaning cost in the UK?
Most biohazard cleans cost between £250 and £2,000, excluding VAT. Small jobs start from around £150. Large hoarder cleans can reach £10,000 or more. The price depends on the size of the area and the amount of waste. We quote for free, often from photos.
Can I clean up a biohazard myself?
We do not recommend it. Household products do not kill many of the bacteria and viruses involved. You also risk infection, and hazardous waste cannot go in a household bin. A professional team cleans, disinfects and removes the waste legally.
How is biohazard waste disposed of?
Biohazard waste must be sealed, labelled and taken to a licensed facility. It cannot go in household bins. Emergency Clean UK is a licensed waste carrier (CBDU626436), so we remove and dispose of all hazardous waste legally as part of every clean.
Does home insurance cover biohazard cleaning?
Often, yes. Many policies cover biohazard cleaning after a death, flood or sewage leak. Check your policy or ask your insurer. We can provide reports, photos and certificates to support your claim.

"I contacted Corey requiring their services at very short notice. From beginning to end the company were not only professional but the team were also caring and compassionate carrying out their job at a very sensitive time in our families life. I would recommend them to anyone that ever needs the services of a professional cleaning company in the event of an unexpected bereavement."
"The team came today to clear my flat as I had lost my way. I was ashamed and worried about the team coming. Well I needn't have worried. They were all amazing, friendly, reassuring and professional. They were like a whirlwind but were chatting and friendly. I never felt judged in any way. Even though they were speedy they have done a fabulous job. Thank you so much. I highly recommend emergency clean."
"Was having a dispute with a letting agency over third hand smoke damage in a rental property that my wife and I just moved into. Contacted Emergency Clean UK, and Matt Hunt was amazing. He was able to answer all of our questions and quickly provided the support we were looking for. Would absolutely recommend their services to anyone!"
"Highly recommend. Corey, and particularly Katy on the ground, managed the clearing, cleaning and renovation of an apartment that was in a completely squalid state, to something unrecognisable. A few other companies who purport to do this type of work shied away because the job looked so unpleasant. Choose these guys — they are outstanding."
